1 Dead, Another Seriously Injured In Passaic New Year's Eve Fire

A tragic New Year’s Eve fire claimed the life of a 50-year-old woman and left another individual injured in Passaic, authorities said.

The fire broke out at approximately 10:42 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024, at an apartment building located at 361 Madison Street, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman, and Passaic Fire Chief Patrick Trentacost.

The Passaic Fire Department extinguished the blaze, which investigators determined originated in a first-floor apartment. While battling the fire, crews discovered the body of a woman inside the residence. Her identity has not yet been confirmed.

A second individual was transported to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston to be treated for injuries sustained in the fire. The condition of the injured individual has not been released.

All other residents of the building were evacuated as a safety precaution and will not be allowed to return until the structure is deemed safe.
